Unpacking Your Move

Good news…you got through the packing and moving process and you have finally arrived at your new home.  Now comes the realization that you have to unpack all of your stuff.  After a few exhausting weeks of long hours and lots of loading, the thought of unloading can be daunting.  Luckily there are a few great tips that help make the unpacking process faster and much easier.  Here are a few tips to keep in mind as you unpack your portable storage container.

  1. You Don’t Have to Do It All in a Day

One of the most convenient features of a portable storage container is the fact that you can keep it as long as you need it.  This means you don’t have to work yourself to death trying to unpack all of your belongings in a day or two.  Take your time and break the job down by room. It will save you a great deal of energy and it will make the whole process a lot more enjoyable.

  2. Unpack the Essentials First

Hopefully you packed your essentials separately so you can easily find them.  Things like toilet paper, toiletry items, bed linens, towels, and medications should be unpacked first, as you are going to need these items right away.

  3. Place Boxes in the Correct Rooms

Instead of taking all of your boxes out and dumping them in the living room, take the boxes to the rooms where they belong.  Assuming you labeled all of you boxes… this shouldn’t be too difficult and will save you a great deal of time.

  4. Take it One Room at a Time

Many people prefer to completely unpack one room before moving on to the next.  This is a highly effective method for unpacking because it allows you to make progress without feeling overwhelmed.  As you unpack your storage container, focus on doing it by room.  Pacing yourself will also help you to conserve energy.

  5. Organize as You Go

This is your chance to get your home neat and organized right from the start.  Don’t waste time unpacking items that you do not plan on keeping.  Set them aside and take them straight to a donation center.  As you unpack items from your storage container, take the time to make sure everything has a place so you can start off life in your new home as organized as possible.

  6. Unpack Furniture and Electronics As Soon as You Can

Large couches, bulky furniture, and fragile electronics can make moving about in your storage container a little more challenging.  Try to get these items out of the storage container as soon as possible, freeing up space for you to walk around more easily.  This will help you to locate specific boxes more easily.
