Relocating to a new city can be both exciting and a little overwhelming.  However, research has shown that where you live can have a significant impact on your health, well-being, and overall happiness, which is why many people are taking location into consideration when looking for a job.  As the millennial generation is beginning to start careers and families, they are thinking carefully about where to settle down. Whether it be the hot job market, the affordable housing, the desirable location, or the appeal for families, these cities have grown the most over the past five years and are among the most popular destinations for moving.

Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

According to US News and World Report, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina was the number one destination in the country that people moved to in 2018. Be it the laid back vacation lifestyle or the low cost of living, this warm-weather destination is clearly drawing new residents.  In addition to low taxes and low housing prices, Myrtle Beach also boasts 60 miles of shoreline and a community that is friendly and supportive.

Austin, Texas

Austin, Texas has topped the charts for the past two years as the best place to live.  Its prime location gives residents easy access to everything the state of Texas has to offer, given that most places are only a short drive away.  There are endless opportunities for quick day trips, including relaxing beach destinations.  Furthermore, thanks to the many tech companies that have opened up in Austin recently, it has become a hot spot for job seekers.

Fort Myers, Florida

Fort Meyers has become one of the fastest growing metro areas.  This quiet city is located along the southern Florida Gulf Coast and has attracted both tourists and plenty of new residents.  It’s friendly people, tropical climate, and abundance of outdoor activities make it an ideal place for both families and retirees.

Sarasota, Florida

In addition to the warm climate that people are seeking, residents love living in Sarasota because it is a cultural mecca with countless opportunities for entertainment.  It is also appealing because there is no state income tax, low property taxes, and a variety of affordable housing options.  Sarasota is also known for its excellent healthcare, white sandy beaches, flavorful foods, and booming economy.

Charleston, South Carolina

Charleston has remained among the top 10 most popular destinations to move.  Thanks to its moderate temperatures, increasing job growth, and affordable cost of living, Charleston has been attracting more and more young professionals.  This beach-side city is charming, historic, and quaint…what’s not to love?

Nashville, Tennessee

Its growth rate of 6.7% in the last four years proves that aspiring country singers aren’t the only ones moving to Nashville.  The Music City has seen tremendous growth over the last decade due in part to its booming number of tech jobs available.  It’s has maintained a steady economy and strong job market thanks to some of its biggest employers in the healthcare, government, and educations sectors.  It also has great weather and a cool, hip vibe that appeals to both families and young professionals.
