Necklaces, bracelets, earrings, rings, etc. all have one thing in common, they are all pieces of jewelry that many people own and take a lot of pride in. People want to take care of the things that mean so much to them, and your favorite piece of jewelry is certainly no different. Whether it’s has been handed down from a member of your family or it is brand new, keep reading to find out how to store your jewelry effectively.

Keep it Clean- It is best to keep jewelry clean, more specifically, cleaning your jewelry after every use is a good habit to get into if possible. Take a soft towel or cloth and wipe it down to remove possible stains that are left after your jewelry is worn.

Keep it Separated- If possible, keep your jewelry in separate containers or compartments. If you keep all items in a separate compartment, this will help prevent things from getting tangled, scratched, or possibly even broken. Separation will also allow pieces of jewelry to maintain their original color for as long as possible, while increasing the chances of your rings and things lasting longer as well.

Dry Storage Areas are Best- This one is short and to the point, but very important. Many liquids and humidity can damage your valued jewelry. Keep it in a dry, climate-controlled area at all times.

Heat and Jewelry Do Not Mix- A good rule of thumb is to try to store jewelry at room temperature, placing it away from the direct sunlight. This will help prevent wear, tear, and damage over time. Too much heat or overexposure to sunlight can cause jewelry to loose it’s color and fine finish over time as well.

Rent a Storage Unit- All of the situations above can be solved by renting a cost-effective storage unit. Many storage units are large enough to store items separately when needed, as well as being climate-controlled. And the interior of these units can protect against substances that will cause wear and tear to items, while keeping your items like jewelry safe and secure until they are ready for use.

Jewelry is certainly a very important part of many people’s wardrobe, and SMARTBOX wants to do our part to help your protect these valuables.
