Before a large majority of final decisions are made one very important question always comes into play, “How much is it going to cost?” This definitely applies to the topic of moving. People want to know, “How can I get the most out of my money?” We are going to help you answer these two questions with some cost effective ways to move.

If You Don’t Need It, Sell It- There are many different items you have to sift through when going through the moving process. Divide all of your belongings into piles: Keep It Pile and Sell It Pile. You could have a garage sale for the items that are not going to make the move with you. A little extra cash is always a good thing. If you prefer not to sell your excess belongings, Goodwill is also another good option to consider. Either way, these are both productive options and will make the relocation process easier.

Do Your Homework- Research all your possible options, have a plan, and stick within a budget. Talk to relatives or friends who have been through the process before, found out who they used, and any recommendations they may have. Take it one step further, call several moving companies and compare their benefits, cost, and find out if they offer discounts for their customers. Doing your homework will allow you to help you sleep better at night, knowing that you made the best decision possible for you and your family.

Do-It- Yourself- Find out if there are any companies out there that offer do-it-yourself-moving options.  This will allow you as the person actually doing the moving for yourself to have a heavier wallet at the end of the day, and also be able to take comfort in the fact that you had control over the entire moving process, taking a very hands on approach.

Use Your Own Moving Transportation- A significant part of the transitional period is physically transporting your belongings from an old location to a new location.  If you are looking to save money, use personal vehicles for moving transportation.  SUV’s, mini vans, or pickup trucks are all great examples of vehicles that can be turned into moving transports with very little expenses involved.

Let Family and Friends Be Your Movers- Often, when moving people are in need of many extra sets of hands to help complete the process.  If you do not want to hire the movers, let your family and friends play that role for you.  It might require you having to buy dinner when it’s all said and done, but most people will see that as much more cost effective then having to hire an entire moving service itself.

It is the goal of everyone to look for the most cost effective ways to get things done.  We hope that you are able to use these tips when going through the moving process.  If you would like additional moving tips, please feel free to browse through our website and our other Blog information.
