8 Quick Steps for Listing Your Home in a Short Timeframe

by Dusty Rhodes | Jun 18, 2020

The real estate market is currently seeing historic low interest rates. This has many people thinking about listing their homes and taking advantage of these low rates. However, some people are worried about having enough time to get their house ready to be listed. The good news is that there are plenty of simple things you can do to list your home in a short timeframe. Don’t miss out on listing your home this summer. Follow these easy steps to get your home in tip-top shape in no time!

1) Declutter

If you are serious about selling your home, all the clutter must go. Clean and organized floors, cabinets, closets, and bedrooms equal more space and are more appealing in the eyes of a buyer.

2) Give it a Good Clean

From shining floors and gleaming windows to clean counters and scrubbed grout, every part of your home should be thoroughly cleaned. This is one of the cheapest and easiest things you can do to prepare your home to be listed.

3) Boost Your Curb Appeal

The exterior of your home is where you make your first impression so you want to draw buyers in. Make sure your home looks its best by mowing the lawn, weeding and mulching flower beds, pressure washing the driveway and walkways, planting some flowers,  and trimming shrubs and bushes. You can also create an inviting entryway by adding a few flower pots, a door wreath, and a new doormat.

4) Make Small Upgrades

Sure, you don’t have time for a complete remodel but that doesn’t mean you can’t make a few small changes that have big rewards. Focus on simple upgrades that will wow buyers like changing out old light fixtures, adding a fresh coat of paint, adding new cabinet hardware, and replacing your shower curtains. These simple upgrades won’t cost much but they can be done in a few days and can really enhance the look of your home.

5) Stage Your Home

Home staging is one of the most important aspects in preparing your home to be listed. That said, not everyone has the time or the money to invest in a professional stager. You can get the same effect by decluttering your home and bookshelves, removing personal photographs, sticking with neutral colors, and getting rid of bulky or excess furniture. You can rearrange your existing furniture to create conversation areas and showcase your home’s best features.

6) Fix Small Repairs

This might not be the best time to do major repairs, but you can certainly fix the little things. Walk through your home and look for any loose handles, missing light bulbs, broken fixtures, or leaky faucets. When you’re selling your home, you don’t want to give your buyer any doubts about the condition of your home.

7) Invest in Temporary Outside Storage

If you are in a time crunch, you might not have time to sort through your belongings and have a yard sale. That’s where portable storage units can help. They provide a great place to store your items so you can get them out of your home quickly. You can keep your items stored until you are ready to sort through them. Portable storage units are also great for storing furniture, personal photographs, and collectibles that you might not want on display while your home is staged.

8) Take Great Photos

It is to your benefit to ensure you have high quality photos that really showcase your home’s features. If money allows, you should invest in a professional photographer that can get great shots. If not, be sure you are using only high-end resolution photos and try to get photos with as much natural light as possible.
