Curb appeal

The exterior of your home is the first thing people notice, so sprucing up the outside can add serious curb appeal to your home. This is where first impressions are made and it sets the tone for what’s inside. Whether you are interested in selling your home or you just want to make some improvements for your own enjoyment, adding curb appeal is a simple way to make your home look better and boost its value. Here are a few tips for updating your home’s curb appeal.

Clean Up the Lawn and Gardens

Lawn care is one of the easiest and most important ways to improve and maintain curb appeal. Clean out and weed all of your gardens and flowers beds and add some fresh mulch. Trim bushes and any window-obscuring trees so the entire front of the home is visible. Mow your lawn regularly and rake up any leaves or debris. Keep your lawn well watered to prevent brown spots and have it sprayed to avoid unwanted weed growth and keep it looking lush and green.

Spruce Up the Front Door

The front door is the main entrance to your home, so make it stand out. You can replace the front door with something more appealing, or you can paint the front door. You can choose a subtle paint color for something clean and elegant or go with something brighter to add a pop of color that will add interest. You can add even more beauty to the front door with a wreath. Look for wreaths with dried or preserved greens and florals and choose something that can be used throughout the entire season.

Update Your Hardware

Replace your front door’s hardware with something new and shiny. Choose a color that will add contrast to the paint such as black or brass. A door knocker is also a fun touch that will make your door stand out. Don’t forget to update your house numbers so they are noticeable from the street. Finally, swap out your  old mailbox with something stylish and attractive.

Add a Fresh Coat of Paint

Paint can go a long way in changing the entire look of your home. If you are up for it, paint the entire exterior of your home to drastically improve curb appeal. If you don’t want to paint the whole house, add some fresh paint to the front door, shutters, trim, and porch for an inexpensive way to polish the look of your home.

Upgrade Your Lighting

Does your home still have those brass porch lights from the 80’s that are now covered in cobwebs? It’s time to brighten your entrance with some new, modern fixtures that will give your door way some pizazz. You can also light the pathway to your home with solar powered lanterns that will brighten your entryway.

Add Some Flowers and Greenery

One of the most obvious ways to add curb appeal to your home is by adding some greenery and flowers. Plant a few colorful annuals in your flower beds and around your mailbox. If you don’t have the time to plant a garden, you can get the same effect by adding some window boxes and planters on your front porch. Hanging baskets and porch planters are an easy way to make your entryway welcoming.

Give it a Good Cleaning

Cleaning is a simple weekend project that can make a huge difference in your home’s curb appeal. Spend some time cleaning your windows inside and out and pressure wash the driveway and walkways so your home truly sparkles.
