Everyone will move at some point in their lives but no matter how many times you do it there will always be stress, challenges, and plenty of unknowns.  What if there was information that could be helpful in guiding you through the moving process?  Luckily there is!  These are just a few interesting statistics that will help you as prepare for the moving challenges that lie ahead.

An estimated 43 million Americans relocate every year.

That means that there are plenty of other people in the same boat that you are in.  Whether they are moving for work, government relocation, or personal reasons, the fact is lots of people are moving every year.  This means that millions of Americans will be faced with similar challenges: How can I sell my home faster? How can I get more money for my home?  What is the most cost-effective method for moving?  Where I can store all of my belongings during the moving process?

Nearly half of all moves take place in the summer, between the beginning of May and Labor Day.

When you consider that nearly 43 million people move each year and almost half of those take place in the summer, you might want to keep in mind that summer is going to be a busy time for the real estate market, but also for professional moving companies.  If you happen to be one of those people who are moving in the summer, you might want to consider alternative methods for moving, as moving companies are likely to increase their rates during peak season due to high demand.

More people utilize the do-it-yourself method rather than hiring professional movers.

By professional movers: 650,000

By consumer with rented truck: 1 million

By consumer unassisted: 1.35 million

There are a number of reasons why people prefer to move on their own rather than hiring professional movers.  For starters, professional movers are very expensive.  In addition, they can be hard to book and they also put the consumer on a very strict time constraint.  Most people choose to move without even renting a truck.  Many of these people choose to use a portable storage company to help them because it is convenient, affordable, and gives consumers the flexibility they need during such a hectic time.

Annual self-storage revenue in the U.S is $36 billion!

Again, it’s no secret that Americans utilize the self-storage industry to aid them in the moving process.  Thanks to its practicality, convenience, affordability, and flexibility, self-storage is becoming one of the most popular ways for people to move.
