It’s that time of year for family gatherings, holiday parties, and decorations of course! This year don’t let tangled lights and broken ornaments put on a damper on your holiday spirit.  Give yourself the gift of organized holiday decorations with these practical storage solutions.  Not only will you be sure that your decorations are safe and sound, but you will spend less time getting frustrated and more time enjoying this joyous season.

Utilize Clear Containers

When your containers are clear you can easily see inside them to find what you are looking for.  Grab a few clear, plastic containers and fill them with anything from pine cones and berries to ribbons and bows.  The boxes can also be neatly stacked on top of one another to maximize space in your attic, closet, or storage unit.

Organize Wrapping Paper in a Garment Bag

Don’t spend unnecessary money buying new rolls of wrapping paper every single year!  Instead of throwing those rolls onto the floor where they will get wrinkled and torn, try stashing all of the rolls in a garment bag.  Once it is filled, simply hang it in the back of your closet and your paper will remain neatly organized until next year!

Wrap Lights Around Cardboard

Nothing is more frustrating than finding your lights in a tangled knot.  This year, keep those lights tangle free by wrapping them around a piece of cardboard.  Simply cut ½ inch slits on the sides of the cardboard and wrap the strands around, tucking them into the slits to hold them in place.

Bag Your Tree

Artificial trees can be quite an investment, but they can last for years and years when stored properly.  Consider purchasing a tree bag for your artificial tree.  Simply place your tree inside and zip up the bag.  The tree will be safe from pests and moisture and the bag is also easier to carry and store.

Pack Your Ornaments

Every year some of our ornaments emerge from their boxes chipped or broken.  Protect delicate ornaments by placing them in a box with cardboard dividers.  Egg cartons and apple cartons also work well for keeping your ornaments from bumping into each other.  Be sure to stuff the nooks and crannies of your ornament boxes with tissue paper for extra padding.

Hang Your Wreaths

Wreaths can be bulky and need to be well protected when stored.  For an easy wreath storage solution, simply attach you wreath to a hanger using wire hanger and then wrap the wreath in a plastic bag.  You can then hang the wreath in your closet where it will be sure to keep its shape for next year.

Pack Like Items

Decorating for the holidays can be a lot of fun but it can also be frustrating when you waste too much looking for a specific item.  When storing your holiday items, pack like items together.  For instance, stocking holders should go with the stockings.  All lights should be packed together.  All greenery should be packed together.  All wrapping materials should be packed together.  This makes finding those specific items much easier for next year.

Consider Renting a Mobile Storage Unit

Most people are short on storage space as it is, and the problem only gets worse when you start adding to your holiday collection.  The good news is you don’t have to give up your holiday decorations due to lack of storage space.  Instead, consider renting a mobile storage unit where you can easily store and organize all of your holiday décor. The units are delivered to you, and you can pack at your own pace. Once you are done, you can call us to schedule a pick up to store your local location’s warehouse. Smartbox doesn’t charge for picking up containers.

It is the perfect solution for everything from the littlest ornaments to the biggest artificial trees and lawn décor.
