DORM ROOM XMAS

Not every college student has the opportunity to go home for the holidays. Perhaps they are working during the break, don't have the money for a plane ticket home, or are wrapping up school-related responsibilities. Whatever the reason, they can still enjoy the spirit of the season from the comfort of their dorm room. We all know that the life of a college student is typically a frugal one, so we have compiled some great ideas to help college students celebrate the holidays...even on a budget. If you’re on campus this holiday season, you can enjoy your own traditions and celebrate the season in these new and exciting ways.

1. Decorate Your Dorm Room

You can certainly deck the halls and get into the holiday spirit by adding some festive decor to your dorm room. Start with a wreath for your door. This is an easy and inexpensive way to feel the joy of the holiday season the moment you arrive at your dorm room. Next, no holiday display is complete without a Christmas tree! Luckily, trees are available in all different sizes, including ones small enough for a bedside table. So, no matter how much space you have in your dorm, there is sure to be a tree that will fit just right! You can also hang garland and lights around your window and hang a stocking to make it feel even more like home. Finally, don’t forget to plug in a holiday scented air freshener to really create the feeling of the holiday season.

2. Have a Cookie Swap with Friends

Nothing says Christmas quite like the comfort of holiday cookies. You don’t have to have access to a kitchen to bake cookies. Visit a local bakery or grocery store and pick up a batch of your favorites. Wrap them in a festive cookie bag and tie a ribbon for that added touch of holiday cheer. Invite your friends over to your dorm to exchange cookies and celebrate the season!

3. Host a Potluck Dinner

Yes, a holiday feast is possible even on a college campus! Just invite your friends to bring their favorite holiday dish. No kitchen? Not to worry! Grab a dish from your favorite local restaurant or choose something that can be warmed in the microwave. Everyone only has to pay for one dish, but they get to enjoy them all! For even more festive fun, ask everyone to dress in holiday attire. This is a great way to enjoy the company of good friends and food!

4. Go Caroling

You can spread holiday for everyone to hear by gathering a group of friends to go caroling through the dorm. Remember that you aren’t the only one who might be feeling a little homesick, so spread cheer to those around you and brighten everyone’s spirits with a few holiday classics sung by you and your friends.

5. Host a Holiday Toy Drive

The holiday season is about giving and that means remembering those less fortunate. You can celebrate the true meaning of the season by hosting a holiday toy drive at your dorm. Spread the word around campus and post flyers in nearby coffee shops and restaurants and spend your holiday doing something special for others. After all, it is in giving that we truly receive.
