Moving to a new home can be quite a job and it is easy to forget about those important items that you are going to need for your first few days at your new home.  If you don’t plan ahead, you risk these items getting lost in the mix with all of your other belongings.  Furthermore, you risk damage or theft of certain valuables if proper precautions are not taken.  Therefore, you should make a list and remember to pack these 9 important items separately to ensure you are well prepared.

  1. Keys

It might sound silly but we are bound to forget the obvious, especially when there is so much going on.  Nonetheless, you will certainly be in real trouble without these!

  2. Chargers

You want to be sure you have chargers for all of your electronic devices.  It might be a few days before you can go through all of those boxes and you are likely to need to charge these devices before then.

  3. Medication

If there is any medication that you take on a daily basis you will definitely want to keep that with you at all times during the move.  It is also a good idea to pack some ibuprofen or Tylenol just in case you should need it any point during the move.

  4. Essential Toiletries

You are going to need some basic toiletries when you first move into your new home.  Soap, shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrushes, etc. should be packed in a separate bag wher you can easily access them.

  5. Expensive Jewelery

As much as we would all like to trust our movers, it’s better to be safe than sorry when packing expensive jewelry.  You also risk losing it if it’s thrown into a random box.  You are better off keeping a close on any valuables so you can be sure they are in safe hands.

  6. Important Paperwork

If you have any important paperwork that you will need to access such as a title, bank information, your passport, etc. it is best to keep it in a secure envelope in your personal bag.  You don’t want to spend time fumbling through boxes to find important documents.

  7. Extra Change of Clothes

You should always pack a bag of personal items that you are going to need as soon as you get to your new home.  It won’t be easy to sift through all of those boxes right away so it is a good idea to have a couple pairs of clothes packed separately.

  8. Snacks

You certainly won’t be cooking that first night in your house so you want to stock up on non-perishable snack foods and bottled waters to get you through the first day or so.  This is especially important if you are moving with children.  You want to have snacks and drinks that are easily accessible.

  9. Purse and/or Wallet

You definitely want to keep your purse and wallet with you at all times.  Again, you can’t be trusting with movers and it will be difficult to locate them if they accidentally get packed.  This is a good place to keep important papers, checkbook, and any important phone numbers you might need.
